We are a call centre here to support and facilitate the process of getting you or your loved one into detox and/or treatment for drug and alcohol misuse. We work with the best facilities in the country and have lived a life of addiction ourselves. We are in Recovery now and want to help those still struggling.
Addiction is a chronic disease that deeply affects the way our mind and body functions. It is not uncommon for the byproducts of addiction to result in negative outcomes in almost all areas of someone’s life. Addiction is a progressive, fatal disease, but treatable.
MDMA is a synthetic drug that acts as a stimulant and hallucinogen. It produces an energizing effect, distortions in time and perception, and enhanced enjoyment from sensory experiences. It has also been described as an entactogen—a drug that can increase self-awareness and empathy.
Ecstasy is often used to refer to MDMA in the tablet or capsule form, which is the most common way people take the drug. Altho9ugh there is not conclusive evidence showing MDMA to be addictive, researchers have determined that many ecstasy tablets contain not only MDMA at different concentrations, but also a number of other drugs or drug combinations that can be harmful. Adulterants found in ecstasy tablets purchased on the street have included methamphetamine, the anesthetic ketamine, caffeine, the diet drug ephedrine, the over-the-counter cough suppressant dextromethorphan, heroin, phencyclidine (PCP), and cocaine.
While fatal overdoses on MDMA are rare, they can potentially be life threatening—with symptoms including:
- high blood pressure (hypertension)
- faintness
- panic attacks
- loss of consciousness
- seizures
Because of its stimulant properties and the situations in which it is often taken, MDMA is associated with vigorous physical activity (“raves” – outside dance parties) for extended periods in warm environments. This can lead to one of the most significant, although rare, acute adverse effects—a marked rise in body temperature (hyperthermia).
